In 1810 much of the Costa Mesa land was given out by the Spanish in a land grant. The land was separated and sold. A small town was formed in 1880 called Fairview but had become defunct by 1890 due to a flood, It was then reverted to farm and cattle land once again.

By about 1920 the area had harbored a new small town called Harper, several years later the town was renamed Costa Mesa. Costa mesa continued it's age old tradition of farming and cattle land.

The Building and Oil Industries started to gain momentum when the Great Depression made it's way to Southern California, this affected the local businesses terribly. adding to the stress of our local Costa Mesa forefathers was a large earthquake striking in 1933, which damaged the schools and businesses. However, Costa Mesa persevered and is now a major commercial and industrial center in Orange County.
